Prescott Valley Hosts Economic Discussion with Sandra Watson
In a recent gathering, the Town of Prescott Valley Economic Development Division featured Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA). This event was part of a series aimed at regional sustainability and economic growth, specially designed for local business and civic leaders.
Prescott Valley’s Strategic Economic Plan
Prescott Valley has finalized its first Economic Development Strategic Plan, gearing up for a prosperous future. This plan charts out essential objectives and actionable steps to lure investment, back local businesses, and generate job opportunities. You can peruse the plan on the Town’s website under the Economic Development Section.
Sandra Watson praised Prescott Valley for its inclusive approach to economic development. “You’ve got a plan for where you are going. And you’re working together. Those are the key ingredients that any community, any state needs to be successful: being inclusive, creating a strategy, being intentional, and working together,” said Watson.
The ACA’s Role in Economic Growth
Watson, with over 30 years of expertise, emphasized the need for job creation and economic diversification in Arizona. The ACA plays a pivotal role in attracting businesses, fostering innovation, and nurturing entrepreneurship. Watson highlighted the state’s numerous advantages, such as its business-friendly environment, skilled workforce, and strategic proximity to global markets.
During her address, Watson stated, “Arizona’s strategic approach to economic development has yielded remarkable results. Our focus on attracting high-quality companies, fostering innovation, and cultivating a thriving business environment has positioned Arizona as a national leader in economic growth.”
Community Engagement and Job Creation
Watson extolled Prescott Valley’s cohesive community. This involvement is essential for successful economic development. “It’s about ensuring that Arizona can develop an economy that’s sustainable and resilient. That means investment and jobs in our community so that our residents and young people have a better life and better future,” she added.
Gilbert Davidson, Town Manager of Prescott Valley, emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities. “One of the pillars of our strategic plan is being a prosperous community, and what that translates to is jobs, jobs, jobs. If we want good companies, good businesses, and job creation, we’ve got to have a vibrant economy… supporting residents."
Recognition and Future Plans
Prescott Valley’s economic future looks promising under the leadership of Cutter Chamberlain and Diana Soto. In April 2024, their efforts earned the town the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) Small Organization of the Year award.
Chamberlain, Economic Development Administrator, shared, “We will be continuing our mission of attracting high-wage and quality jobs to the area by focusing on growing and emerging industries, building upon our established industry clusters, and by identifying occupational opportunities within our own sector.”
Soto, Economic Development Specialist, asserted, “Through our Economic Development Strategic Plan, we can align our goals with actionable items and ensure that Prescott Valley businesses continue to prosper and the residents who live here have a great quality of life."
