Overview of the OPEC Report
The report investigates supply-demand dynamics, international policies, and sustainability goals. It further delves into investment flows and the industry’s key challenges.
Resilience Amidst Global Economic Clouds
Behrooz Baikalizadeh, Head of the Petroleum Research Department, highlighted the robust nature of the global economy. Despite recent turbulence, it has shown resilience. He noted the pivotal roles of the USA, China, and India in driving global GDP growth. Additionally, declining inflation supports investment and energy demand.
Despite risks like high debt and geoeconomic fragmentation, Baikalizadeh reassured that “the foundation for oil demand in 2025 and 2026 is robust.”
Rising Energy Demand
Raed Alaameri, an Energy Demand Analyst, emphasised that global energy demand will rise by 23% by 2050. This increase is anticipated mainly due to population growth and economic expansion in Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa.
Renewables are set to grow rapidly, increasing their share from 3.5% to 13.5% of the energy mix. Natural gas will also expand, appreciated for its flexibility and lower emissions.
Sustained Oil Demand
Ali Akbar Dehghan, Senior Oil Supply Analyst, projected oil demand to climb from 103 million barrels per day in 2023 to approximately 113 million by 2030. Growth will primarily occur in non-OECD countries like India, China, Eurasia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Interestingly, demand in OECD countries is expected to decline post-2030.
The Energy Mix And Future Directions
Despite the rise of renewables, oil and gas will continue to supply over half of the global energy requirements. They remain crucial, driven by transportation and petrochemicals sectors.
In related news, the Kazinform News Agency reported on Kazakh startups showcasing innovations, spanning from sports to green energy.
Concluding Thoughts
This report paints a thorough picture of the current energy landscape and its trajectory. As the world adapts to changes, investment and innovation will play central roles in shaping the future.
