Job Creation in India: A Triumph in the G-20 Context
A Remarkable Achievement
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced a laudable accomplishment for India. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025, India’s unemployment rate has impressively dropped to merely 2%, the lowest among the G-20 nations. This milestone arises from consistent economic growth, successful job creation across varied sectors, and efficient government schemes.
Partnership for Employment
In a recent event in the capital, Mandaviya spoke passionately at the signing of two crucial Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements were with Mentor Together and Quikr, aiming to boost employment via the National Career Service (NCS) portal. Such initiatives are designed to augment opportunities for the youth.
Expanding the NCS Portal
The NCS portal has evolved into a comprehensive digital ecosystem for employment. Currently, it boasts:
- 52 lakh registered employers
- 5.79 crore job seekers
- 7.22 crore mobilised vacancies
With 44 lakh active job listings, the portal is flourishing. Notably, in the last year, the ministry has entered agreements with 10 significant organisations, including Amazon and Swiggy, creating nearly half a million job opportunities.
Emphasis on the Youth
The government’s commitment to youth employment is undeniable. As part of a Rs2 lakh crore package, initiatives are in place to enhance skilling, employment, and entrepreneurial opportunities, positively impacting 4.1 crore young Indians.
Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana
A cornerstone of this package is the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY), with a budget of Rs99,446 crore. This aims to generate 3.5 crore jobs over two years. Of these, 1.92 crore are dedicated to first-time job entrants.
Collaborations to Fortify the Employment Ecosystem
The collaboration with Mentor Together expects to aid two lakh youths initially, through personalised mentoring by over 24,000 trained professionals. The enhanced MoU with Quikr will integrate 1,200 daily job listings into the NCS portal, especially benefiting rural and underserved areas.
An Inclusive Vision
Minister Mandaviya lauded these collaborations as steps towards a future-ready, digital, and inclusive employment model. Union Minister of State, Shobha Karandlaje, praised the NCS portal for its extensive facilitation of job matching, counselling, and skilling services.
Building a Bright Future
In pursuit of bridging gaps between job seekers and the private sector, the Ministry aims to provide every young Indian, especially from underserved backgrounds, with meaningful employment.
In Mandaviya’s optimistic words: “These initiatives will ensure that the future of this country, and of its youth, is bright.”
