Greetings from Duluth, Minn., where “Super Saturday” has once again roused the nation’s Christmas spirit. This day, renowned for its last-minute shopping frenzy, certainly lived up to expectations.

A Record-Breaking Day

According to the National Retail Federation, a staggering 159 million shoppers were anticipated to engage in retail therapy on the Saturday before Christmas. It’s a day when the urgency of acquiring the perfect gift reaches fever pitch.

Bustling Canal Park

In Canal Park, the charming DeWitt building was abuzz with activity. A delightful assortment of local businesses presented everything from snazzy apparel to quaint knick-knacks and delightful children’s toys. Shop owners noted a bustling day, with a consistent stream of patrons, though things did slow down a tad come evening.

Weathering the Shopping Storm

Interestingly, some staff observed a quieter ambience this year. The less-than-pleasant weather was largely responsible, they mused. Yet, hardy shoppers braved the elements to tick off those final items on their lists. “I need to go to Target… and just kind of bounce around,” said Emma Downing, capturing the spirit of the day. “It’s a controlled panic.”
