An Invitation to the 11th World FZO World Congress
The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO) is all set to host its 11th annual World Congress. This esteemed gathering will occur from 10–12 October 2025 at the Hainan International Conference and Exhibition Centre. The event will draw over 1,500 policymakers, business leaders, and free zone practitioners from around the world.
Zones: Gateways to Global Prosperity
The Congress, titled “Zones: Gateways to Global Prosperity, Trade, and Sustainable Innovation,” promises to be the largest and most influential assembly of its kind. A dynamic platform awaits governments, investors, and industry experts to address pressing issues shaping the future of global trade. The partnership with the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development underscores Hainan’s position as a strategic hub and a hallmark of China’s Free Trade Port.
Keynote Speakers and Opening Ceremony
The opening ceremony will present keynote addresses by His Excellency Dr Mohammed Al Zarooni, esteemed Chairman of the World FZO, and others including Aiqing Fang and Umberto de Pretto. Their insights will set the stage for the discussions to follow.
Comprehensive Programme Over Three Days
Over the course of three robust days, the Congress will deliver keynote speeches and host roundtables, panels, and leadership sessions. These will explore the economic and social contributions of zones to inclusive growth. They will delve into the importance of resilient stakeholder ecosystems and examine the transformation of China’s Free Trade Ports, with Hainan as a global exemplar.
Embracing Technology and Sustainability
The Congress will shine a light on the role of digitalisation in competitiveness, covering topics like artificial intelligence and blockchain. Furthermore, investment megatrends, sustainability, and the future of industries will come under discussion.
Expanding the Significance of Free Zones
Dr Al Zarooni reflected, “Free zones have never been more relevant. Initially mere trade enclaves, they’ve evolved into complex ecosystems. Today, with over 3,500 zones worldwide creating above 90 million jobs and contributing around 20 per cent of global trade, their impact is profound.”
Reimagining Zones for the Future
He added, “Our aim is to chart a practical roadmap for zones to remain engines of innovation and sustainability. In Hainan, we plan to engage governments and communities to look beyond short-term gains. The discussions here will set the tone for future decades.”
Milestone Events and Strategic Forums
The Congress will also feature significant events such as the Executive Leadership Programme and the First China Comprehensive Free Trade Zone Development International Forum. A Ministerial Meeting will culminate in a communiqué outlining future strategies.
Sustainable Certification and Networking Opportunities
The launch of the World FZO Sustainable Zones Certification Programme, developed in partnership with MVGX, will align with ISO 37101 standards. This will establish a global benchmark for sustainable industrial parks. Delegates will enjoy networking opportunities, cultural events, and gain insights via real-world case studies.
Shaping the Next Era of Trade and Investment
At a pivotal moment for the free zone movement, the 11th World FZO World Congress emerges as a critical forum for shaping trade and investment’s future. It ensures that the benefits of free zones extend beyond their borders, driving the sustainable transformation of the global economy.
